Looking for a General Biology course? If yes… keep reading!

Biology is obviously a science staple for high school students in every state and school. It is an amazing opportunity to learn about all life around us and how amazing God’s creation is!

However, not all high school students take the same biology course. There are some who love science and choose to take an honors-level course. There are others who want to earn college credit for biology, and they take the AP level course and then study to pass the AP exam. Then there are those who do not choose either honors or AP and just want a good general biology course.

Some of you may know that Apologia Biology is a college-prep/honors-level science course, and some students even use Apologia to study for the AP exam. Apologia Biology is not a certified AP course, but in many areas, it does go into the depth of an AP biology course.

While I do like Apologia science, my children do not need a college-prep science course. So, I used the Apologia Biology, 3rd Edition book to create a General Biology course. What this means as far as the high school transcript goes is that I will just input Biology, not Honors Biology. Of course, my child will still participate in all the labs and write the lab reports.

General Biology Documents

So… what exactly did I create? For each module, you will find:

  • Bio Mod #-Guided Notes Answers
  • Bio Mod #-Guided Notes
  • Bio Mod #-Study Guide
  • Bio Mod #-Test Answers
  • Bio Mod #-Test

Each module is broken up into 4 days. As the student reads the assigned pages for a particular day, they fill out the Guided Notes as they progress through that day’s reading.

The Study Guides contain the exact information they will be given on the test.

The Tests and Test Answers are self-explanatory.

For some, there will also be models for printing, where the students are to learn the different parts and be able to label them as part of the test. For two modules, there is a worksheet to reinforce a concept.

Videos

For many of the modules, I have provided videos. I have personally watched every video and of course, approve of them. However, I encourage you to view the videos just to be sure you also approve of them.

Possible Controversial Videos

Evolution

Module 8 is the chapter on Evolution. The guided notes are strictly from the Apologia textbook, but I added two videos that present two different sides of the Evolution debate.

The first video asks if a Christian can believe in Evolution and not reject the authority of Scripture. The video answers yes, one can believe in Evolution and not reject Scripture.

The second video addresses whether a Christian must believe in a Young Earth and reject Evolution so that one does not contradict Scripture. The video answers yes, one must believe in a Young Earth.

Regardless of personal beliefs, I believe it is important for my own children to recognize that there are Christians who truly love Jesus and believe in the authority of scripture and do believe in, or at least believe in the possibility of, macroevolution being valid.

However, PLEASE watch the videos on Evolution first to be sure you want your own student watching them. If you do not want them to watch, just delete the video links from their Guided Notes.

Human Sexual Reproduction

Module 12 is a chapter on plants, the same as Module 11. I created a replacement unit for Module 12 on Human Sexual Reproduction as I felt the benefit of a detailed unit on this is more beneficial than another chapter on plants. If you choose the replacement unit and have your child complete the unit on Human Sexual Reproduction, PARENTS MUST WATCH THE VIDEOS FIRST! I believe all the videos to be done in good taste, but I would never make that judgment call for someone else’s child.

AGAIN, PLEASE watch the videos on Human Sexual Reproduction first to be sure you want your own student watching them. If you do not want them to watch, just delete the video links from their Guided Notes.

That about sums it up! I am happy to answer any questions you may have. AND, if you use these General Biology Documents and you find any mistakes, please let me know!

Kristi, you are a God send! Thank you so much for this scaled Biology. If not for you, we’d have to do biology all over again with another program this summer, and we didnt realize how far our student was behind until 2/3 thru the school year. We can now do labs with the class and stay up with the rest of the students, then we’ll go back thru starting at Module 1 this summer. Whew! How can I buy you a cup o java!?
